Taking it easy after mountainbiking injury

June 27, 2011

I had to laugh when I saw this photo taken of me in the 8-hour mountain biking race. My eyes are closed, I’ve got mud on my face and I’m going pretty slow – someone is about to pass me. It was about 10 minutes after I fell off and injured myself and at that stage I didn’t realise I had a compression fracture in my upper spine, although I knew it hurt like hell. Amazing how your body can keep going in shock.

Anyway, I’ve been taking it easy since then, since that is all I can do. Getting a bit more mobility back and driving now, though domestic stuff like vaccuming, making beds, bending down and carrying anything heavy is out of the question. I’m told at the earliest it will be 6 weeks before I’m back to normal. But hey, it could have been worse.
